A Golf Sanctuary Rooted in Tradition and Patriotism

Nestled in the heart of Oklahoma Green Country, The Patriot features a Robert Trent Jones, Jr. course with 19 holes (two #6’s), each designed to challenge players with diverse obstacles. The Patriot serves as a golf-centric sanctuary for local and national members who are passionate about the game and appreciate its history and traditions, all within a setting that embodies a profound sense of patriotism.

Central to the Club’s mission is its desire to be a refuge from daily life, focusing on what truly matters. This commitment is best observed at 13:00 every day when all activity pauses as a bell is struck 13 times and “Taps” is played to honor those who sacrifice for America.

The Patriot’s dedication to the military is paramount; Owasso, Oklahoma, has been recognized as one of the most patriotic places in America. The Club partners closely with Folds of Honor, located adjacent to the Owasso Folds of Honor Foundation, and hosts the nationally broadcast Folds of Honor Patriot Cup each year, drawing PGA Tour and Champion’s Tour professionals, celebrities, and military players.

With a deep sense of patriotism and loyalty to its members, BlueSpeed AV began the discovery process by exploring the functionality of each space within the 28,000-square-foot facility. The Club includes a member dining room, library with curated American artwork, men’s bar, wine room, member bar, a 500-seat banquet hall, administrative offices, grand entry, lush outdoor patio, and much more.

The Patriot was a new construction that required a solution for managing over 96 light switches spread throughout the space. The inconvenience of walking around such a large facility to turn lights on and off, set dimming levels, and make adjustments for events or different times of day would have left the staff exhausted.

“The constant interaction that would have been required to manage the massive number of lights was eliminated with help from Lutron,” shared Ryan Sullivan, owner of BlueSpeed AV. “Plus, we introduced other solutions they didn’t even know they needed until they understood what the system was capable of.”

BlueSpeed AV installed Lutron’s Panelized Homeworks QS with the goal of achieving system reliability, lighting simplicity, and dimming ambiance. The 96 light switches were minimized to only three panels of lighting, with just five interaction points (keypads). This straightforward approach allows staff to create an environment for members to enjoy easily and quickly.

“We predicted each room’s usage and programmed it accordingly to minimize the need for additional interactions,” explained Ryan. “And it was Lutron solutions working alongside a strategic automation strategy that allowed us to do that.”

For example, two lights illuminate a highly sought-after cup between The Patriot and another club. When play commences, if The Patriot wins, both lights brighten; if the competing club takes the victory, a completely different lighting action is triggered. This lighting design serves as a subtle symbol of tournament pride and friendly competition. All staff need to do is use a phone or touch panel to initiate the programmed scene for the club’s triumph, eliminating the need to find and manually turn on multiple cumbersome light switches.

BlueSpeed also leveraged motion sensors to create an energy-efficient system that prevents lighting up empty rooms. Closing up the facility is effortless with the “away” button, or a scheduled “off” command can be programmed to initiate during closing hours, with a low-level lit pathway illuminated throughout the facility.

The lighting sensors change the mood based on the time of day. The system is both scheduled and programmed, allowing staff to dim the lights to create the best atmosphere for member events. A planned dimming occurs every night based on sunset using Lutron’s internal clock, so the lights intuitively adjust for dinner time without needing to update the timing for seasonal changes.

This provides members with the perfect glow in the elegant dining room, creating the ideal ambiance for tasting wines and beers in the first-class wine room. Whether enjoying a drink with friends over a game of shuffleboard or bringing the whole family together for a movie night, live concert, or wedding in the stylish banquet hall, the lighting is programmed to respond appropriately with assistance from Lutron.

The Patriot represents the pinnacle of patriotism while offering members an exceptional and purpose-driven golf experience, lodging atmosphere, and dining environment. The Club staff has numerous essential daily tasks, and now adjusting lighting is no longer one of them. The lighting and automation design completed by BlueSpeed AV allows them to focus their time and energy on their mission and their members.
